You might be wondering if this coffee shop is ever going to open. The answer is yes. We want to offer our continued gratitude for your support and keep you updated as to what has been happening.
Here’s a quick update:
In fall 2013, we started the process of fundraising, setting up non-profit status, and the hunt for a suitable location. We have received our 501 (c)(3) tax exempt organization status from the IRS. In January we found our current location, 300 E. Long Street. The process to get a signed lease was extensive and we finalized the lease in June. Creating architectural drawings and receiving building department approvals of the build out was a complicated and lengthy process that involved several submissions. Currently, we have received all the necessary approvals and are moving forward.
As you receive this letter, we are under construction. Currently, we are installing and ordering supplies and equipment. The landlord is also making some additions and improvements during this time, which will add to how long it will take to get all construction completed. Despite potential setbacks during this process, we will see this through. Nobody said it would be quick and nobody said it would be easy. If they had, they would have lied!
We have been able to hold several open house pop ups, where we temporarily sell coffee on a given day at our location. We have the Columbus community responding to our vision. We are on the Columbus Coffee Trail as one of eight local coffee shops dedicated to quality and collaboration. The first pop up allowed us to make a small donation to Gracehaven, a local human trafficking organization. At the second pop up, the community responded and helped us to purchase a Biosand Filter for an African home through Blood:Water Mission. This last pop up allowed us to purchase twenty-seven Thanksgiving meals at Faith Mission. In addition, we will be able to begin to sponsor a child through Food For The Hungry. Even though we aren’t officially open yet, we are restoring lives. Think of what will happen when The Roosevelt is open and thriving!
We are working diligently to get the doors open. This is a crucial time for us. We are committed to the cause and to our purpose. It takes patience and perseverance to follow the call we have been given. We are asking you, as a supporter, to join hands with us. When this is all said and done you are going to get an incredible cup of coffee, but more importantly, you are going to impact the world.
